The top-seeded doubles team from India, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, advanced to the Malaysia Open semifinals on Friday, January 13 after mounting an incredible comeback in their quarterfinal encounter. Liu Yu Chen and Ou Xuan Yi of China were defeated by Satwik and Chirag in a three-game match that took an hour and six minutes. When they were down a game and 10-17, world No. 5 Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty were looking down and out. However, the young Indian pair orchestrated an incredible comeback. They had advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating the reigning All-England champions, Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Bagas Maulana.

World No. 2 Satwik and Chirag defeated the tenacious Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Maulana Bagas of Indonesia 21-18, 21-19, while world No. 8 Prannoy fell short against the player one slot below him, Denmark’s Anders Antonsen, 14-21, 11-21 in 43 minutes. After the challenging 44-minute test from the world No. 9 couple, who had defeated the Indians twice in the previous year at the Thailand Open and China Open, the second-seeded team of Satwik and Chirag, who advanced to the quarterfinals in 2023, will aim to carry on the strong streak and go further in the draw.
