The BWF Tour action will be shifting its course from Thailand to Indonesia now. On Tuesday, June 13, 2023, the BWF Super 1000 tournament Indonesia Open will begin. After the Thailand Open 2023, this is another competition that will include the best players in the world. The Indonesia Open 2023 will be the 41st edition of the tournament. It is the 9th tournament on the 2023 BWF Super Series and the 13th on the World Tour. This international tournament will take place at the Istora Gelora Bung Karno inside the Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The Indonesia Open is an annual badminton tournament organized by the Badminton Association of Indonesia since 1982. It became part of the BWF Super Series tournament in 2007 and got the Super Series Premier status in 2011. Since 2018, it became one of only three tournaments to be granted Super 1000 level the other two being the China Open and Malaysia Open.

The Indian Contingent

Top Indian players, including PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy, will be in action at the Indonesia Open. Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu, will look to bounce back against G.Tunjung following back-to-back first-round exits from the Singapore Open and the Thailand Open. On the other hand, Saina Nehwal will open against world No. 7 Wang Zhi Yi of the People’s Republic of China. While Aakarshi Kashyap will take on world No.2 An Se Young of the Republic of Korea in the round of 32.

In the men’s singles, world No. 8 HS Prannoy, will face Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto in his first-round match. Thomas Cup 2022 champion Lakshya Sen will open his campaign against Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia in the round of 32 of the Indonesia Open. On the other hand, former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth will play Lu Guang Zu in the opener.

India’s main doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, will play the Indonesian duo of T Popov and C Popov in the round of 32. In the women’s doubles event, the Indian pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will face Japan’s Rin Iwanaga Kie Nakanishi in their opening match.
