In a surprising result, India’s women’s badminton team defeated China with a score of 3-2 at the Badminton Asia Team Championships. PV Sindhu, a top player from India, made a successful comeback after being out for four months due to an injury. She played on Wednesday and helped her team achieve an unexpected victory.

India was already set to move ahead in the tournament since there were only two teams in their group. However, they still managed to beat the leading team from China. PV Sindhu, who hasn’t played since she hurt her knee in October last year at the French Open, played first and won against Han Yue, who is ranked higher than her.

After this, Tanisha Castro and Ashwini Ponappa faced a defeat, as did Ashmita Chaliha, putting India behind with a score of 1-2. But, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand brought the team back to a tie by winning their game. The victory was sealed by Anmol Kharb, a much lower-ranked player than her opponent, as she won a tough match that lasted over an hour.

The Badminton Asia Team Championships are important because they give players points that help them qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. These championships are also where teams from Asia can qualify for the Thomas and Uber Cup, which will happen in Chengdu, China, in the spring of next year. India currently holds the Thomas Cup title.

PV Sindhu is leading the Indian squad at the 2024 Badminton Asia Team Championships in Shah Alam, Malaysia from February 13-18. Each team will play three singles and two doubles matches during the initial rounds. They’ll follow a round-robin format, with the best two from each group moving to the quarterfinals. India’s women’s team is already set for the knockout stage since they’re only paired with China in Group W.
