PV Sindhu the 11th Ranked player in the world, triumphed over the 8th-ranked Han Yue with scores of 21-17, and 21-15, taking only 40 minutes to claim her fifth victory in all of their encounters. This win was crucial in India’s 3-2 triumph over China in Group W at the Badminton Asia Team Championships held at Setia City Convention Centre in Shah Alam, Malaysia.

Sindhu, a former champion, has made a comeback after a knee injury in October and showed excellent form and growing confidence by maintaining her lead throughout the first game. Despite being behind at 10-13 in the second game, she rallied to take 11 of the next 13 points, providing India with an initial 1-0 advantage.

However, the team fell behind 1-2 when teammates Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa in doubles, along with Ashmita Chaliha in singles, faced defeats. Tanisha and Ashwini lost 19-21, 16-21 to the doubles pair ranked 4th in the world, while Ashmita was beaten 13-21, 15-21. Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand turned things around with a 10-21, 21-18, 21-17 victory, tying the score.

PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy are leading India’s badminton team, aiming for success at the Badminton Asia Team Championships 2024 in Shah Alam, Malaysia, from February 13-18. The event includes competitions for both men’s and women’s teams. India has sent 10 players for each category. The Indian men’s team, which previously won bronze in 2016 and 2018, is in Group A with China and Hong Kong.

Then, 17-year-old Anmol Kharb demonstrated great composure to clinch the match for India by overcoming Wu Luo Yu 22-20, 14-21, 21-18 in an hour and 18 minutes. The young national champion recovered from losing the second game and being behind at the start of the third to win the match by scoring three consecutive points.

Eighteen-year-old national champ Anmol Kharb bravely stepped onto the court for her first major international match. She faced Wu Luo Yu from China during the Badminton Asian Team Championship. The showdown was critical, with the score tied at 2-2. But Anmol kept her cool and managed to clinch an impressive 22-20, 14-21, 21-18 victory.

This win handed India a thrilling 3-2 win over China in the women’s team category. Although it was just the group stage and China brought a less experienced team, India was already set to move on to the quarterfinals. However, following victories from PV Sindhu and the pair Treesa-Gayatri, it was up to Anmol to secure the 3-2 lead.

This match marked India’s maiden win over China in a women’s team event, but China’s team wasn’t at full strength, missing top players like Chen Yufei and He Bing Jiao. Nevertheless, both teams advanced to the quarterfinals set for Friday. In another match, India’s men outperformed Hong Kong with a 4-1 score in Group A, securing a quarterfinal spot with a match to spare.

Although HS Prannoy suffered a loss in the opening game, the team, including Thomas Cup champions, bounced back, securing four consecutive wins. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty in doubles, Lakshya Sen, MR Arjun, Dhruv Kapila, and Kidambi Srikanth in singles all won their respective matches. India is all set to face China on Thursday for the title of group winners.
