The Diamond League, a top-level athletics competition, is set to make its inaugural appearance in Xiamen, China on September 2, 2023. The new venue replaces the former host city of Shenzhen and features a stadium that can have around 53,000 spectators. As the second-to-last event in the regular 2023 series, it’s an important opportunity for athletes aiming to qualify for the season-ending finals in Eugene, Oregon. A total of 13 events will be providing DL points at the Xiamen Diamond League 2023.

Many medal winners from the recent World Athletics Championships 2023 in Budapest will be marking their presence at the Xiamen Diamond League 2023. Among them are Yaroslava Mahuchikh from Ukraine, the current high jump world champion, who will again face off against Eleanor Patterson, who took home the silver in Budapest. Grant Holloway, the three-time world champion in the 110m hurdles, will compete against Olympic gold medalist Hansle Parchment.

The men’s 800m race will be a high-voltage competition. Marco Arop will go head-to-head with other medalists from Budapest, including Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi and Britain’s Ben Pattison. Wyclife Kinyamal, who currently leads in Diamond League points but missed the Kenyan trials, will also compete. After her dominant win in the women’s 400m at the World Championships 2023, Marileidy Paulino from the Dominican Republic will be back to compete in the Xiamen Diamond League 2023.
