Track and field athlete Grant Holloway, also known as Stanley Grant Holloway, is a sprinter and hurdler who represents the United States of America competitively. He is a two-time world champion in 110m hurdles, having won the competitions in 2022 and 2019. He is the present world record holder in the 60m hurdles discipline with a timing of 7.29 s, set in 2021. With a personal best timing of 12.81 secs in the 110 m hurdles, he is presently the second fastest man in this discipline in history. He had established the mark at the US Olympic Trials in June 26, 2021. He is also a Tokyo Olympics 2020 silver medalist.

Junior Athletic Career

Holloway demonstrated exceptional flexibility by competing in the long jump and the 4x400m relay in addition to hurdles. His winning time of 7.58 seconds for the NCAA Indoor Championship in the 60-meter high hurdles set a new collegiate record. With 2018, he successfully defended his NCAA title in a time that broke the collegiate record and set a new world record in the 60-meter high hurdles. His timing of 7.42 seconds was also a global record. In the long jump this year, he came in second, while Florida, with his assistance on the second leg of the 4x400m relay, came in third. At the SEC Championships outdoors, he ran the 110-meter hurdles in a then-world-record 13.15 seconds, and four weeks later, successfully defended his NCAA championship.

In 2019, he went unbeaten in the 60m high hurdles, winning his third consecutive NCAA title and becoming the first person to do so. He also broke his own collegiate mark with 7.35 seconds, which is also an American record. He set the NCAA and American records in the 60-meter hurdles in 2019 with the mark of 7.35 seconds. He is also the third-fastest man in the event’s history with a timing of 7.35 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles. His performances were instrumental in the Florida Gators winning team championships at the 2017 NCAA Division I Championships, the 2018 NCAA Division I Indoor Championships, and the 2019 NCAA Division I Indoor Championships.

Senior Professional Career

Holloway broke Colin Jackson’s 27-year-old world mark of 7.30 seconds on February 24, 2021, during the final of the World Athletics Indoor Tour in Madrid. Prior to winning the final in 7.29 s, he had earlier equaled his American record of 7.32 s in the heats. This was already the second-best time ever entering the event. He won the 60 m hurdles event in the final and the 2021 World Athletics Indoor Tour as a whole. On April 10, he made his outdoor debut at the Miramar Invitational in Miramar, Florida, winning the 110 m hurdles final in 13.04 seconds, his fastest first-round result in the event. At the Tokyo Olympics 2020, he clinched his first Olympics medal in the form of silver with a timing of 13.09 s after losing to Hansle Parchment. He went on to successfully defend his world championship title, by winning the gold medal at the World Athletics Championships 2022 with a timing of 13.03s in the 100m hurdles event.
