Peter Bol is currently one of the best middle-distance runners of the world. In 2022, Peter achieved his third straight national 800m title. He smashed his personal Australian 800m mark while on a European trip in June, racing at the Paris Diamond League. His time of 1:44.00 was the third time he had lowered the record that year. He followed that up with a second quick time of 1:44.26, which was his 10th career sub-1:45 effort. Peter performed well in his heat to win the race in his third World Championship. Bol was third in the semi-final. However, he had to wait anxiously to find out if he advanced to the final. He did so making history as the first Australian to advance to an 800m final in the World Championship. He eventually finished seventh in the final, clocking 1:45.51. The two-time Olympian then went on to win the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.

He entered the 800m competition in Tokyo ranked 19th. Nevertheless, he took off right away, finishing second in his heat in a pace that set a national record (1:44.13). He established himself as a medal contender the next day by winning his semi-final in yet another national record of 1:44.11. Following Alex Rowe in 2015 and Jo Deng in 2018, Peter became the third athlete coached by Justin Rinaldi to surpass the national record in 800 meters in the previous six years. Peter was courageous in the 800m final, a slower and more tactical race, and provided himself every opportunity to place on the top. He came in brilliant fourth, thus narrowly missing out on a medal. Since Darren Clark finished fourth in the 400-meter race in 1988, 33 years ago, it was the best finish by an Australian male athlete in a single track competition.

Peter Bol was born to a Sudanese mother and a South Sudanese father in Khartoum. When he was four years old, his family moved from Sudan to Egypt, where they lived for four years. His family got humanitarian status in Egypt through the UNHCR, initially arriving in Toowoomba before relocating to Perth. Peter started his athletic career when he was 16 years old. One of his teachers approached him following an athletics festival and persuaded him to join an athletics club by offering to assist him locate a mentor, a team, and a coach. He agreed since he thought it was a reasonable offer, especially because it would make him more physically ready for basketball. However, the move paid off and he became one of the best Australian athletes in track events.
