Nagmeldin Peter Bol, also known as Peter Bol, is a middle-distance runner from Australia who excels in 800 metres. He won the silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Bol rose to fame after clocking a personal best time of 1:44:11 in the semi-finals to secure a spot in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 finals. He then finished fourth in the tactical race, losing out on a bronze medal by 0.53 seconds with a timing of 1:45.92. In the final, the gold medalist, Emmanuel Korir, finished in 1:45.06, which was slower than Bol’s pace in his heat.

Peter Bol was born in 1994 in Khartoum, Sudan. His mother is Sudanese, while his father is from what is now South Sudan. The Bol family fled Sudan at a moment of unrest and moved to Egypt before travelling to Australia in 2004. However, there was some misconception circulating about his life, which claimed that he and his family came from an Egyptian refugee camp. He received a basketball scholarship at St Norbert College, a famous private school in Perth, when he was a youngster. Bol had to take part in the school’s sporting program every year. He kept winning races, but he had little interest in switching to athletics, despite the advice of his teachers.

When Bol was in his eleventh year, a teacher persuaded him to give athletics a try in exchange for her assistance in connecting him with a coach, a club, and a mentor. He then flourished as an athlete within just a few years. Bol studied economics and construction management in addition to running at Curtin University with the goal of becoming an engineer. The 27-year-old is undoubtedly surrounded by the help he needs to flourish on the global stage. He is coached by Justin Rinaldi, a highly recognized individual, and trains alongside his close friend and fellow 800m runner Joseph Deng. Justin Templeton is his manager, who previously managed David Rudisha, a two-time Olympic gold medalist in the 800m.
