Mutaz Barshim is one of the most popular and richest Runner who was born on June 24, 1991 in Doha, Qatar. Essa Mohamed Barshim, a former athlete, and his mother are Mutaz Essa Barshim’s parents. But Mutaz’s mother’s identity is still a mystery. Actually from Sudan, both of his parents now reside in Qatar. There are also four brothers and a sister in his family. Barshim’s father is a professional track and field athlete, which has led to his engagement in the sport. He has asserted that he was uninterested in clubs when he was younger but eventually joined one because his father used to take him there. Muamer Aissa Barshim, one of his brothers, is also a high jumper.
While his father represented the country in walking and long-distance running, the Olympian was more interested in high jumping. With a height of 2.43m, he set national records and was awarded a silver medal at Rio’s 2016 Summer Olympics. In 2010, Barshim experienced his first international achievements. He won the gold medal at the 2010 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships with a clearance of 2.20 m. His effort of 2.23 m placed him in fourteenth place in the qualifying round of the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Doha, where he was chosen to represent Qatar.
With these accomplishments, he became the first ASPIRE Academy alumnus to compete at the World Championships and to hold the U.S. record in an Olympic sport. Barshim won the Arab Junior Athletics Championships in Cairo in May 2010. He later won the continental junior title at the Asian Junior Athletics Championships in 2010. After clearing a height of 2.35 m, a new national and championship record, he won gold in the Asian Athletics Championships in Kobe. He maintained his excellent form and won the gold medal with a 2.28 m clearance in the Military World Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Mutaz Barshim, a high jumper from Qatar, wed Alexandra Everett in 2018. Both her native Sweden and Qatar hosted wedding festivities for the couple.
Alexandra participated in middle-distance competitions as an athlete. The couple had a child named Josef Essa Barshim in 2020.
