Kathryn Moon, also known as Katie Moon, is a track and field athlete who competes in pole vault competitions for the United States. She is the current Olympic and world champion. She won the Olympic gold medal with a mark of 4.90m at the postponed Olympic games in Tokyo. With a best effort of 4.75m in Belgrade, Serbia in March 2022, she took home the silver medal at the World Indoor Championships. She later claimed the World Championships in Oregon 2022 with a vault of 4.85m, which was also the championship record.
In 2018, Katie Nageotte and Hugo Moon got to know one another while residing in Pullman, Washington. They met on the dating app Tinder when Hugo was pursuing his master’s degree and coaching the club rowing squad at Washington State University and Katie was preparing for the pole vault competition there. Hugo asked if he could join the family permanently while shooting the Thanksgiving family photo. He could never formally ask Katie, “Will you marry me,” because she took the ring and put it on her finger first. They married on December 31, 2022, on New Year’s Eve at the DoubleTree by Hilton.

Hugo, born in England, excelled as a cox and competed with Bedford School’s 1V8 in his junior and senior years. In addition to working with youth international crews, he coxed Star Club to the Thames Cup final at Henley Royal Regatta and claimed the Jackson Trophy the following year with the club. He continued to cox throughout his first year at Birmingham University, competing with the club’s 1V8 and 1V4 at the British University Championships. Hugo began his coaching career by working with young boys at Canford School. He later moved on to Warwick University, where he helped the women’s team place 43rd at WeHORR, setting a club record.
Hugo relocated to Gainesville after spending two years at Washington State University. Hugo coached the WSU Club Women’s team while earning a master’s in sports management. Under his direction, the team won at Head of the Lake and won medals at the ACRA National Championships in 2018 and 2019. Hugo has been the head coach and director of rowing at Ganesville Area Rowing Inc. since 2019. Before that, he served as Washington State University’s Club Women’s Rowing Head Coach.
