Marcell Jacobs is an Italian track and field athletes who specializes in sprinting events. He is the current Olympic and World Indoors champion. He is also the first Italian athlete to ever qualify for and win the men’s 100 meters final in the Olympics. Besides this, he also assisted the Italian team in winning the 4 X 100 meters relay event in Tokyo 2020 which was also the first-ever victory of Italy in this event. As a result of his extraordinary performance, he was chosen as the flag bearer of the closing ceremony in Tokyo. Post his successful Tokyo Olympics campaign, he has endorsement deals with brands like Asics, New Balance, Maserati, Allianz and so on.

At the 2016 Italian Athletics Championships, Jacobs won the long jump competition. He finished the 2017 indoor season with an individual best of 8.07 meters, which placed him tenth on the IAAF (now World Athletics) world-leading list. At the Italian U23 Championships in 2016, he broke the previous mark for an Italian with a leap of 8.48 meters, however a 2.8 m/s wind prohibited this effort from being accepted as a national record. Jacobs announced the choice to focus solely on sprinting in 2019. In July 2019, Jacobs ran the third-fastest 100 meters in Italian history, clocking a time of 10.03 seconds. He now has a personal best of 9.80 secs which he achieved in 2021.

Jacobs returned to the track in February 2022 after a successful 2021 campaign and finished first in the 60-meter event at the ISTAF Indoor in Berlin with a time of 6.51. In the World Indoor Championships final, he defeated Coleman and set a new European best of 6.41. He rose to the fourth-fastest athlete in distance history after winning the gold. Due to a thigh injury, Jacobs was forced to leave the World Championships 2022 before the semifinals. At the European Championships in Munich, Jacobs defeated defending champion Zharnel Hughes to win the 100-meter final in 9.95 seconds.
