Ethiopian athlete Lamecha Girma, who competes in the 3000 metre steeplechase, was born on November 26, 2000. He earned silver medals at the 2019 and 2022 World Athletics Championships and the silver medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. At the 2022 World Indoor Championships, Lamecha also took home a silver medal in the 3000 metre race.
He currently holds the 3000 metre indoor world record, which was established in February 2023. Lamecha took home the silver medal at the postponed 2020 Tokyo Olympics in 2021 with a time of 8:10.38. This time, El Bakkali won the race in 8:08.90, while Benjamin Kigen took third in 8:11.45. At the 3000 metres in Belgrade, Girma won the silver medal for the 2022 World Indoor Championship. He finished in 7:41.63, while Marc Scott finished in third place in 7:42.02 and his countryman Selemon Barega won the race in 7:41.38.
