The 2023 UK Athletics Championships and World Trials will kickstart at the Manchester Regional Arena from 8th July. It will be the qualification for the August’s Budapest World Championships. The top two in each event will secure a place to represent Great Britain, as long as they have achieved the qualifying standard. There will be one additional place which will be decided by the Team GB selectors. It will take the tally to three places. However, the athleted must meet the qualifying standard criteria. As a result, the competition is going to be very tough.
British record holder Keely Hodgkinson will be the favourite for the women’s 800m with tough competition coming from the likes of Ellie Baker, Alex Bell, Issy Boffey, Jemma Reekie and Erin Wallace who are all registered for the event. Neil Gourley leads the entries for the men’s 1500m after stellar performance at the Oslo Diamond League in June. However other contenders for the throne will be George Mills, Matthew Stonier and Elliot Giles. The men’s 5000 m will be an intriguing one with the likes of Jonathan Davies, Jack Rowe, Charles Hicks and Emile Cairess among the protagonists targeting UK gold. Zak Seddon will be the number one in the men’s 3000m Steeplechase. Chris Snook will lead the charge in the 5000 m race walk.
The women’s 1500m includes three athletes who have run the qualifying standard already this season: Olympic medallist Laura Muir, Katie Snowden and Melissa Courtney-Bryant. Over 5000m, Jess Warner-Judd will be among the favourites for the UK title. Yasmin Austridge will be the top ranked athlete in the women’s 3000m steeplechase field. In the 5000 m race walks, Bethan Davies and Heather Warner lead the entries in the women’s event.
