Murali Sreeshankar, who competed in the men's long jump for the first time since the National Games last year due to an injury
At the Indian Grand Prix 3 2023 athletics event on Monday in Bangalore, Karnataka, India’s top sprinter Hima Das won the women’s 200m gold medal and Murali Sreeshankar took first place in the high jump. But, the pair painfully missed out on meeting the requirements to compete in the Asian Games in 2023. In the women’s high jump competition, Rubina Yadav recorded a jump of 1.81 meters, surpassing the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) qualification standard of 1.80 meters. By exceeding the qualifying standard time at Sree Kanteerava Stadium of 13 minutes and 63 seconds, Jyothi Yarraji qualified for the upcoming Asian Games held in Hangzhou in China.
Murali Sreeshankar, who competed in the men’s long jump for the first time since the National Games last year due to an injury, produced several leaps over 7 meters and took home the gold medal with a best effort of 7 points 94 meters. He fell short of the Asian Games qualifying mark of 7.95m. Hima Das finished first in the women’s 200-meter race with a time of 23:07 seconds.
