When competing in the men’s 5000-meter race at the Sound Running Track Festival in 2023, India’s Avinash Sable broke his own personal best. Avinash bettered his own national record by clocking 13:19.30, more than a six-second improvement from his previous time of 13:25:65. Parul Chaudhary, meanwhile, broke the women’s 5000-meter national record. She clocked 15:10:35, which broke the previous national record of 15:15.89 set by Preeja Sreedharan at Guangzhou in the Asian Games 2010. Parul became the first competitor from her country to complete the women’s 3000m course in under nine minutes. While at a competition on Saturday in Havana, Cuba, triple jumper Praveen Chithravel made a historical leap. The jump, which measured 17.37 metres, is expected to break Renjith Maheshwary’s national record jump of 17.30 m from 2016.

Parul Chaudhary’s record

The 27-year-old Chaudhary finished third on Saturday night after covering the distance in 8:57.19. With her most recent effort, steeplechase specialist Chaudhary beat Suriya Loganathan’s previous mark of 9:04.5s, which she set in New Delhi six years ago. In the race, Chaudhary was running in fifth place, but he gained ground in the final two laps to finish on the podium. The Indians don’t frequently compete in the 3000m, a non-Olympic event. Additionally, Chaudhary will be competing for India in the World Championships, which will begin later this month in Oregon, USA. She’ll be taking part in the 3000 m steeplechase for women. At the nationals held in Chennai last month, she had taken first place in the women’s 3000m steeplechase.

Avinash Sable’s record

At the Sound Running Track Festival in Los Angeles on Sunday, distance runners Avinash Sable and Parul Chaudhary set new national records for the men’s and women’s 5000-meter events, respectively. In contrast to Chaudary, who broke a 13-year-old national record in the women’s division set back in 2010 at the Asian Games in Guangzhou, Sable broke his national record in the event, which stood at 13:25.65 exactly a year after he set it with a time of 13:19.30.

Praveen Chithravel’s record

A young group of jumpers, including Praveen Chithravel, Abdullah Aboobacker, and Eldhose Paul, who are the Commonwealth Games 2022 silver and gold medalists, have put the triple jump mark in jeopardy over the past years. The 17-meter mark in the triple jump has been touched by Indian athletes, but the 21-year-old Chithravel from Tamil Nadu broke it earlier this year. To win the gold medal at the 2nd Indian Open Jumps Competition in March, he had established a new meet record (17.17m). He had a strong start to the outdoor season after winning silver at the Asian Indoor Championships earlier.

Chithravel is presently training in Cuba for a month with a few other jumpers, including Jeswin Aldrin, Arpinder Singh, and Selva Prabhu, under coach Yoandri Betanzos. Chithravel’s 17.37m leap occurred during a competition between Indian competitors and athletes from Cuba. According to Depor Cuba, a Cuban triple jumper came in second place with a leap of 17.34 metres. With the Asian games 2022 around the corner which start in September 2023, the performance of the Indian athletes will give a lot of assurance to the coaches and also the fans.
