Khelo India University Games 2022: Final Standings, Records Broken, and More

The third edition of the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) was recently virtually inaugurated by the Prime Minister in Uttar Pradesh.

The third Khelo India University Games saw the setting up of 11 meet records. The government of India started Khelo India in 2017 to pull up India’s sporting tradition by interacting with kids at the basic level. Khelo India’s literal translation means “Let’s Play India”. The initiative also concentrated on improving the nation’s sporting facilities and academies for various sports. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is in charge of carrying it out.

The third edition of the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) was recently virtually inaugurated by the Prime Minister in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. It started a new era for sports in India. The Swamp Deer (Barasingha), the state animal of Uttar Pradesh, is represented by the mascot of the third Khelo India University Games, Jitu. Over 4750 athletes representing more than 200 Universities and competing in 21 sports will be present at the games. Varanasi, Lucknow, Gautam Buddha Nagar, and Gorakhpur will all host competitions. The Khelo India University Games 2023 took place between May 25 and June 3. Most of the events were held in Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Varanasi, and Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh. This year’s KIUG saw the debut of rowing.

Panjab University from Chandigarh won the Khelo India University Games 2023 championship with a total of 69 medals. Guru Nanak Dev University came second with a total of 68 medals. The team from Karnataka’s Jain University finished third with 32 medals. Around 4,000 athletes, all under the age of 27, competed in 21 different sports at KIUG 2023 from 205 prestigious universities across the nation.
