The European Cross Country Championships 2022 was the 28th edition of the cross-country running championship for athletes in Europe. It took place on December 11, 2022, in La Mandria Park near Turin, Italy. After previous editions in Ferrara in 1998, San Giorgio Su Legnano in 2006, and Chia in 2016, Italy became the first country to host the European Cross Country Championships on four occasions. Turin was first awarded the right to host the tournament in 2021. However, the Turin tournament’s organizers agreed to hold the event in Italy in 2022 in order to allow Dublin to host the 2021 competition due to the coronavirus epidemic and the cancellation of the 2020 championship, which was scheduled to be held there.
Tokyo Olympics gold medalist in men’s 1500m Jakob Ingebrigtsen defended his senior men’s title at the SPAR European Cross Country Championships which was also his sixth gold medal overall. In the women’s race, Karoline Bjerkeli Grøvdal made it two title wins in a row with a timing of 26:25. Nadia Battocletti of Italy defended her U23 title on home soil in the women’s race, which was also her fourth successive individual title. Germany’s Alina Reh clinched the bronze medal and led her nation to win their first-ever team title. While it was a double victory for Great Britain as Charles Hicks successfully defended his title and led the country to win the team gold.
