The Boston Marathon 2023 is all set to take place in Boston on April 17, 2023, which will feature some of the biggest marathon runners in the world. The race will start from Hopkinton and ends on Boylston Street in Boston. This is the second marathon major of the year after the Tokyo Marathon was held on March 5, 2023. With less than a few hours remaining for the oldest marathon in the world to begin, let’s take a look at the top marathon runners who might grab the men’s elite race in the Boston Marathon 2023.

Eliud Kipchoge

Eliud Kipchoge, widely regarded as the greatest marathon runner of all time, will be finally competing in the Boston Marathon 2023. Kipchoge is a two-time Olympic marathon winner and the holder of the world record in the marathon with a time of 2:01:09 achieved at the 2022 Berlin Marathon. He has also completed four of the top six fastest marathons in history. Although he has previously prevailed in four of the six main marathon competitions, he has yet to triumph in the Boston and New York marathons. When he runs in the Boston Marathon on Monday, the 38-year-old athlete will be attempting to win his fifth major marathon title.

Evans Chebet

Evans Chebet will provide Kipchoge with a fierce challenge as he attempts to defend his Boston Marathon crown. It’s worth noting that Chebet won zero races out of his first ten marathons, with one of them being a DNF (did not finish) in Boston in 2018. However, he finished second in six of those ten races. But in his eleventh marathon, Chebet had success by taking first place in the Buenos Aires Marathon, with a time of 2:05:00. He has won five of his past six marathons, including the New York City Marathon 2022, making him a major contender for the Boston Marathon 2023.

Benson Kipruto

Evans Chebet’s training partner Benson Kipruto is someone who can challenge both Chebet and Kipchoge. He won the Boston Marathon in October 2021 with a timing of 2:09:51 and came third in 2022  with a timing of 2:07:27. In addition, he is the winner of the Chicago Marathon 2022. Considering his success in the previous Boston Marathons, he is the marathoner who is very familiar with the course and will be looking to take advantage of the same as he eyes his second Boston Marathon title in the 2023 edition.

Shura Kitata

Shura Kitata is the athlete who has stunned Eliud Kipchoge before at the London Marathon 2020 when he ran a timing of 2:05:41 to claim his first marathon major title. Kitata has finished in the top five in seven of his nine career World Marathon Majors, with three second-place finishes in the London Marathon (2018), New York City Marathon (2022 & 2018), and a win in London. His other standout accomplishments include a victory at the 2017 Rome and Frankfurt marathons.
