Welcome to the report 2 of the AEW Dynamite Juni 21 telecast. Sammy Guevara and Chris Jericho teamed up with Minoru Suzuki just a few weeks before the Forbidden Door pay-per-view to take on the babyface trio of AR Fox, Darius Martin, and Action Andretti in an effort to halt their escalating rivalry. The match was part of the broadcast, which also featured the TBS Championship defense by Kris Statlander and the newest from Adam Cole, Bryan Danielson, and Eddie Kingston. This report, which includes live ratings and analysis from the June 21 telecast, tells you what happened in real time at WindTrust Arena in Chicago.

Orange Cassidy and Katsuyori Shibata vs. Daniel Garcia and Zack Sabre Jr.

The team of AEW international champion Orange Cassidy and Ring of Honour Pure champion Katsuyori Shibata suffered a significant defeat on Wednesday night at the hands of Daniel Garcia and New Japan Pro-Wrestling World TV champion Zack Sabre Jr. This set up another high-stakes match for the Forbidden Door event on Sunday night. It was stated on the broadcast team that Thoroughly wedged would compete against the other three as the four contestants surrounding Cassidy’s championship.

Given the exchanges between all four even before Wednesday’s match, there was some background to be had in this situation, so at the very least, it could be argued that it is a reasonable addition to the Forbidden Door card. Fans may be in for a treat on Sunday if that match is anyway close to the overall caliber we saw from the four competitors on Wednesday night.

Kris Statlander vs. Taya Valkyrie

Taya Valkyrie was shocked for weeks that Kris Statlander defeated her at Double or Nothing and went on to win the TBS Championship, which had escaped her, despite Taya Valkyrie’s best attempts to defeat Jade Cargill. On Wednesday, she faced off against the newly crowned champion and came dangerously close to winning. Before succumbing to Statlander’s deadly tombstone piledriver, a determined Valkyrie matched her energy and aggressiveness throughout the battle, which is already among the best TBS Championship matches in AEW history.

Bryan Danielson Called Out Kazuchika Okada

Excalibur said that Eddie Kingston was going to disclose the fifth member of his squad at Forbidden Door before the night’s final interval, and Bryan Danielson singled out Kazuchika Okada. We got both, with Danielson calling for and getting Okada while Kingston revealed Tomohiro Ishii as his final partner. The showdown between The Rainmaker and The American Dragon at the end of the exchange was more significant.

The final build to Forbidden Door was nicely wrapped up with a little tease, a massive Rainmaker to a surprised Wheeler Yuta, and a tense staredown among the opponents. The conversation between Kingston and Moxley, who consider themselves friends but are on opposing sides of Sunday’s five-on-five match, was the most fascinating part of all of this. As they make amends or clash on one of the largest venues AEW has to offer, the match is certain to be filled with high drama.

Overall Rating

The success of the broadcast overall would depend on how effectively it marketed the PPV to the viewers since it was the go-home show prior to Forbidden Door. But it accomplished so incredibly well. Every part of Sunday’s show was devoted to either announcing a match, advancing a programme, or advertising a previously announced showdown, with a total emphasis placed on doing so. A strong show with far more hits than misses was created by adding some good in-ring action in the two tag fights and a championship match between Statlander and Valkyrie that performed better than expected.
