In a candid conversation on his “Extreme Life” podcast, AEW star Matt Hardy delved into the challenges and triumphs of his first tenure with TNA (Total Nonstop Action Wrestling), shedding light on his struggles, achievements, and the pivotal moments that shaped his journey.

During his initial foray into TNA in 2011, Matt Hardy faced a series of personal and professional obstacles. Struggling with substance abuse issues, he joined the company alongside his brother Jeff. Despite the challenges, he made a surprising debut in January 2011 as the unanticipated opponent for Rob Van Dam. However, his time with the company was cut short when he faced a suspension due to a DUI arrest, eventually leading to his release in August of the same year.

Matt Hardy provided insights into the circumstances that surrounded his TNA contract. Responding to a fan’s question on the podcast, he revealed, “It was good. It was really good. It also allowed me to do outside things. It was a really good deal. I think it was around $300,000, and you could do stuff outside of wrestling as well. It was upwards of $300,000. It gained a little bit each year.” The lucrative nature of the contract and the flexibility it offered in terms of pursuing external endeavors added significant appeal to his decision.

Matt Hardy has had constant support from his wife

Hardy’s journey has been marked by both trials and triumphs. After navigating a period of personal challenges and seeking support from his wife Reby, he embarked on a journey toward sobriety. This transformation allowed him to redirect his career trajectory and reclaim his standing in the wrestling world.

Hardy’s resilience led to a triumphant return to TNA in 2014, during which he reimagined his persona with the groundbreaking “Broken” character. This reinvention propelled him back into the spotlight, cementing his status as a star. Hardy’s subsequent move to AEW saw him participate in a variety of storylines, leading to a poignant reunion with his brother Jeff and a continuation of their iconic legacy as the Hardys.

Matt Hardy’s professional journey has been characterized by overcoming adversity, embracing transformation, and finding a path to redemption. As he continues to excel in AEW, his story serves as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of reinvention in the dynamic world of professional wrestling.
