AEW Collision is the highly anticipated new AEW show that will run on Saturday nights, with an announcement from Warner Bros Discovery expected shortly. According to Fightful Select, “major plans and a marquee match” are already planned for Collision, with CM Punk reportedly hoping for a “huge match” soon after his comeback.

According to the source, amid rumors that Punk is expected to feud with Chris Jericho, Punk has reportedly lobbied for an alternate opponent right away. Collision will be recorded on Saturdays, with dates already set – the group has a concert booked for Saturday, July 15th, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament finals will be held. However, the corporation has plans to tape episodes on Wednesdays and Thursdays if needed.

There will not be a hard separation to keep CM Punk and The Elite away, but there are others who have been sidelined recently and feel the new program might give them an opportunity to return to TV as well.

CM Punk wants to face this former WWE wrestler amid return rumors

While the Jericho vs. Punk match was apparently pitched and the two wrestlers had a “productive meeting” recently in Florida, Punk has instead been promoting Joe as his return opponent for the better part of a month. Joe has not been featured on AEW television since losing the TNT Title to Wardlow in early March at Revolution 2023. Joe is the current ROH TV Champion and has been on ROH HonorClub TV.

In Ring of Honour, Joe and Punk had an epic rivalry. The last time they faced each other in the ring was in a four-way elimination match at ROH Redemption in August 2005. The ROH World Championship was won by Jamie Noble (aka James Gibson). The last time Punk and Joe faced off against each other was in March 2005. They notably battled each other in ROH in two 60-minute draws, while Joe has two pinfall victories against Punk.

According to Fightful, it’s unclear whether Punk’s offer was for a one-time battle or an ongoing series. It has also not been established whether or not the match will go place. With the introduction of the new AEW Collision show, CM Punk is set to return to the business. The show is set to premiere on June 17 at Chicago’s United Centre.
