Richard Fliehr, better known as Ric Flair, was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on February 25, 1949. Flair was adopted, and his family soon relocated to Edina, Minnesota, where he spent his boyhood. During his stay at Wayland Academy, he competed in track, football, and wrestling.
After dropping out of college, Flair began his career as a wrestler. In 1972, he began training with Verne Gagner and joined AWA. Flair was soon known in the ring for his particular captivating flair.
He defeated Dusty Rhodes, Larry Henning, and Andre the Giant in his early career. In 1994, Flair joined the National Wrestling Alliance. Flair won his first NWA World Heavyweight Championship in 1981, and he defended the title all around the world the following year. Flair was the inaugural World Heavyweight Champion of the WCW, and he signed with WWE in 1991.

In 1991, he joined the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), and in 1992, he won the Royal Rumble for the first time. By defeating Sting in 1994, Flair won the unified WCW International World Heavyweight Champion and the WCW World Champion.
