At the 1997 Badd Blood pay-per-view, Kane’s identity as The Undertaker’s younger brother—long believed to be dead—was memorably revealed. The brothers have fought against one another over the years and have also banded together to form the terrible Brothers of Destruction. However, there’s a good chance that there was another brother involved. A former WWE Superstar has spoken about Jim Cornette’s disappointment over his original plans to become the third Brother of Destruction.

Matt Morgan has spoken out about the promotion’s intentions to cast him as The Undertaker and Kane’s sibling. Morgan joined WWE in April 2002 and was a member of the organization until July 2005. Morgan confirmed the long-running suspicions that WWE intended to re-introduce him as “Abel,” the disguised third sibling of the Brothers of Destruction, during an interview with Chris Van Vliet on his Insight podcast.

A mask for Matt ?

Former WWE star Matt Morgan said preparations were in place for him to wrestle behind a mask in the developmental territory OVW, which was then run by Jim Cornette, in an interview with Chris Van Vliet for his Insight podcast. Cornette was horrified at the idea of having to conceal his top star’s face because he was unaware of the intentions for Morgan on the main roster to be repackaged as the masked Abel.

‘I’ve never shared that story before’

“So you were the first person I told that to, I’ve never shared that story before. So no, Johnny Ace and Stephanie [McMahon] wanted me to wear a mask to work on my body language, right? And so I remember Jim Cornette just being like, what? What are you doing? He’s like our top babyface champion. Why have you got to wear this? This is stupid, like, totally put me over. And I’ll always be grateful to Jimmy for that. I love Jimmy. And anyway, so they put me in this stupid mask, and Jimmy found a way to make it work because he’s freaking brilliant.”

Abel was never featured on WWE television, but Matt Morgan was when Paul Heyman selected him as one of the five teammates for Brock Lesnar’s Survivor Series squad in 2003.

Set for a comeback ?

According to Matt Morgan, he was almost ready to join WWE nine years ago. Morgan joined WWE in 2002 and was fired from the company in 2005. Morgan was depicted as a serious figure and took a crack at the main event scene during his TNA tenure. It turns out that Morgan’s TNA gimmick almost led to his WWE comeback, but it wasn’t meant to be. When Morgan appeared on “Insight with Chris Van Vliet,” he disclosed that he would be making an appearance on a significant WWE programme.

“I was supposed to go back and re-debut with them in January 2014 in the Royal Rumble,” Morgan said. “I was gonna be The Blueprint, finally on WWE TV, not TNA, but WWE. My son, Jackson, was born January 7. That was something that my wife and I had been praying on for eight straight years.” Morgan explained why a WWE return never materialized. “When he was born and I held him for the first time, the switch went off in my head,” Morgan said. “I was done. Again, I’m not going back on the road. I need to be a dad. I need to be home here with my son.”

Post retirement

Morgan quit from wrestling in 2019 to concentrate on his political career after competing for a while in TNA Wrestling. Morgan campaigned for office in the Republican-leaning Longwood, Florida, in 2017 after switching from being a Democrat to a Republican.
