Seth Rollins promised to be a fighting champion after winning the world heavyweight belt at Night of Champions. On Monday night, he delivered on that promise by defending his championship against Damian Priest in Raw’s main event.

Priest was pleasantly happy for the chance, complementing Rollins on his bravery in accepting his challenge and even agreeing that Judgement Day would not be present during the bout. However, the group’s harsher impulses won out, leaving Priest disappointed when they would not follow his plan to fight Rollins one-on-one.

The programme began with Seth Rollins delivering an in-ring promo announcing his plan to issue an open challenge, which Damian Priest accepted. Rollins stated that, regardless of how you feel about them, Judgement Day is made up of talented and dangerous people. This drew Priest and Finn Balor to the ring, where Priest praised Rollins for the chance before exchanging words. Rollins challenged Priest not to have Judgement Day at ringside, which Priest accepted despite Balor’s concerns.d

The bout marked Raw’s first world championship defence in over two years. After a lengthy back-and-forth, Balor ran in to attack Rollins, with the diversion nearly allowing Priest to win with South of Heaven. Priest became irritated and questioned Balor why he was there before Rollins made his comeback and hit the stomp to retain his championship. Balor returned to the ring after the bout and confronted Rollins as the programme ended.

Finn Balor and Damien Priest fled up the ramp when the event ended. Seth Rollins then instructed them to return to the ring and extended a handshake. Damian Priest returned to shake the World Heavyweight Champion’s hand in a touching display of respect. Damian Priest’s partnership with Finn Balor appears to be in jeopardy now that he has broken character following WWE RAW. Throughout tonight’s broadcast, including the show’s opening section, the two suggested some friction. Also, it might be an indication towards The Judgment Day breaking up, but fans loved the segment and let’s see what they had in mind.
