According to a new report, the WWE was approached by at least two former superstars who wanted to make a comeback for the 2022 Royal Rumble, but both offers were supposedly turned down. According to two independent sources, Kurt Angle and Rob Van Dam were both ready and willing to be on the pay-per-view, and even stick around in the weeks leading up to WrestleMania 38.

What exactly happened with Kurt Angle and WWE?

The possibility of Kurt Angle‘s return originally arose before WWE’s Royal Rumble, however, it remained unclear what the strategy was. Angle did appear in St. Louis to film content material, but those plans were rejected, according to Fightful Select. Angle’s participation in the Males’ Rumble is unknown, however, he was said to be involved in the dispute between RK-Bro and Alpha Academy.

Another possibility is that Kurt Angle may serve as the guest referee for the next Elimination Chamber event in Saudi Arabia. Nonetheless, neither of these ideas is currently being implemented. After all, depending on what stopped these dialogues from happening in the first place, that may alter at any time.

What Happened with Rob Van Dam?

Rob Van Dam was recently interviewed by Sportskeeda, and his past WWE experience revealed that he contacted WWE ahead of the Royal Rumble and offered to return as a surprise entry in the event. RVD discussed the process and stated that, while it did not happen, he believes the WWE will call him back to the ring in the future.

“I LET THE WWE KNOW THAT I USED TO BE OUT THERE IN THE EVENT THAT THEY NEEDED…WANTED ME FOR THE ROYAL RUMBLE. ULTIMATELY, THEY DIDN’T NAME ME IN, BUT IT SURELY MAY OCCUR ANYTIME.”

The fact that wrestlers like Kurt Angle and Rob Van Dam were prepped and ready to appear on WWE tv during the Royal Rumble is incredible, and it’s even more incredible that the WWE didn’t make the most of both of them. In fact, fans are well-aware of the fact that the Men’s Rumble was handled so badly that Shane McMahon was purportedly fired as a result of it. Angle and RVD may have raised the pay-per-view’s quality if they had appeared, but it appears that other ideas were more deserving.

The good news is that Kurt Angle and Rob Van Dam might still make an appearance sooner or later, thanks to Shane McMahon’s exit, which allegedly gave up a spot on the late card for a bout. Bringing back a player like Angle or RVD may cover that need, or a player from another match could be elevated to the late-card spot.
