He rose to superstardom after defeating Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts at the 1996 King of the Ring tournament. After defeating Roberts, Austin coined the now-famous Austin 3:16 line. In 1998, Austin feuded with Vince McMahon and had a brief tiff with boxing legend Mike Tyson. He then won the WWF Championship by defeating Shawn Michaels with Tyson as the special guest referee and the famous Attitude Era was ushered in.
He then went on to feud with the likes of the Rock, The Undertaker, Triple H and Kurt Angle and went on to have memorable matches and moments with many superstars. He was also involved in the Invasion storyline which pit wrestlers from WWE and WCE against each other in a winner take all match. Austin was a part of the Alliance that ultimately lost but that match proved to be pivotal in the career of Steve Austin as it catapulted him to global recognition.
Austin fought The Rock in his last match at WrestleMania 19 and retired as a result of suffering a broken neck injury years before.
