Sami Zayn reveals that he once pitched to compete against Byron Saxton

At WrestleMania 39, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens challenged The Usos for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships.

Sami Zayn claims that he previously proposed a bout with commentator/interviewer Byron Saxton. Zayn is now one of WWE’s most popular talents. At WrestleMania 39, he and Kevin Owens beat The Usos to win the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship. But Zayn recently confessed that, back when he was a scumbag heel, he fantasized about meeting Saxton in the ring.

On WWE’s The Bump, Zayn was asked which member of the commentary crew he would fight if he had to, and he recalled pitching a bout against Saxton earlier.

“I have two different answers for this,” Zayn said. “Many years ago, I was actually pitching to have a match with Byron Saxton, and it never came to fruition. The behind-the-scenes stuff, it never really caught on, but it was something that I thought could have been really interesting, especially when I was a bit more dastardly. I think personally there’s something very endearing about him.

“I know not everybody feels that way, but I certainly do, and I thought there could have really been something there in a wrestler-versus-commentator kind of thing, even on a premium live event. This is going back many, many years now, so whether it’ll ever actually happen or not, I don’t know.”

Zayn went on to say that Saxton was previously signed as a wrestler, so he had a prospective bout between the two in his “back pocket,” but it never materialized. “He is actually a wrestler,” Zayn said. “He was a wrestler under contract for many, many years, and not everybody knows that. That’s something I always kind of have in my back pocket one day, when I was doing my dastardly stuff, is to one day zero in on Byron and turn that into something, but it never came to pass.”

At WrestleMania 39, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens challenged The Usos for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships.From start to end, it was an emotional battle. Owens and Zayn eventually won the match and became the new champions. They are now all ready to take on the Bloodline at WWE Backlash alongside Matt Riddle. It would be intriguing to see if Owens and Zayn are able to maintain their championship.
