Kane established his mark as one of the biggest stars on the eve of the attitude era. He may have established his reputation even during the brief period of the attitude era, but the fact that he lasted so long is nothing short of incredible. Even after the Attitude Era, he would have an unbelievable career in which he would unmask and assume many forms and personalities.

During his first few years as a WWE Superstar, The Big Red Machine faced a diverse group of opponents who helped him establish himself as an all-time great.

Here’s a look back at some of Kane’s most memorable WWE rivalries

Triple H

Kane’s route collided with Triple H’s at the start of 1999. The Big Red Machine was a part of The Corporation, and D-Generation X was led by Triple H. Their battle was fantastic, and there came a shocking moment when Chyna turned on Triple H and joined The Corporation.

Kane and Triple H faced off in a number of tag team battles, with Kane frequently triumphing over Triple H. Finally, at WrestleMania 15, Chyna and Triple H reconnected before Kane was kicked out of The Corporation, which was a surprise turn of events.

Steve Austin

Kane was rewarded for his outstanding opening to his WWE career by being placed in contention for the World Championship. Kane rose to the top of the WWE Championship ladder, challenging Steve Austin for the title in the most important battle of his profession at King of the Ring 1998.

The Big Red Machine stunned the world by ending Austin’s first reign as WWE Champion. Kane’s jubilation, however, was short-lived, as he promptly handed the championship back to Austin. Despite only having the WWE Championship for one day, Kane spent most of the year in the main event.

The Undertaker

The Undertaker, of course, was Kane’s greatest foe. This is one of the finest feuds in WWE history, and Paul Bearer did an excellent job establishing the backstory ahead of Kane’s entrance. The Undertaker was a carbon duplicate of The Big Red Machine.

At WrestleMania 14, Kane and The Undertaker eventually faced off, and The Undertaker had to use three Tombstones to keep Kane down. For most of 1998, they fought in bouts, with The Undertaker generally gaining the upper hand on Kane. In the years 2000, 2004, and 2010, this rivalry was revisited. Kane’s career was certainly shaped by this feud.
