Cody Rhodes recently pointed out his differences with John Cena as WWE’s locker room leader. Cena spent nearly 15 years as a regular competitor at the Stanford-based company before moving to a part-time position. The franchise was his WWE face and locker room champion. Rhodes is now considered one of his leading dressing room leaders, returning to the company last year after a six-year absence. In an interview with My Mom’s Basement, Cody hailed Cena as “the ultimate role model.”

“John is the ultimate role model for how he behaves in all things to the media, to the fans, to the good fans, to the more unruly fans. He is the ultimate role model. And I had to drive him a little bit before he became a bus driver. He just talked. He was a really irreplaceable person to be with. However, The American Nightmare noted that he and Cena have different methods as locker room leaders: Rhodes, while Cenation’s leader waits in Gorilla and offers advice to wrestlers. We believe in setting an example.

“If you’re trying to imitate what he did, I don’t think so… Everyone has to do it their own way. And if I were ever to be a backstage manager, I think my style would be to lead by example. I know sometimes it’s easier to just lead by example because really, instead of saying this works, or because everyone is different, you have to do this, do this Instead of sticking to what you have to do, there is no secret to success in sports entertainment or professional wrestling, you have to ask… And I think if I were in this place I would probably do it my way. Wow, yeah, but I like to do it my way.” Main his event at WrestleMania 39, where he faces the undisputed WWE Universal champion.

However, Rhodes’ opponent in Show of Shows is still unknown. Roman Reigns is the current World Champion but will defend his title next Saturday in Elimination Chamber against Sami Zayn. The winner of that match will face American Nightmare at WrestleMania.

Rhodes is also a legitimate draw at WWE’s house shows. According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer, after Rhodes won his Royal Rumble, there was a gradual spike in ticket sales for some of his live events. Additionally, Rhodes is reportedly the top merchandise mover in WWE since returning to the ring at the Royal Rumble. Rhodes is now the clear favorite to dethrone “Tribal Chief” Roman Reigns and emerge as the new Undisputed WWE Universal Champion at WrestleMania 39. Fans on social media believe an upcoming win could boost Rose as the promotion’s new face.
