Carmelo Hayes beats Ilja Dragunov to retains NXT Championship at the Great American Bash

Dragunov responded with a major league clothesline for two before Carmelo Hayes caught him with a superkick.

At the WWE NXT Great American Bash premium live event from the H-E-B Centre at Cedar Park in Austin, Texas, Carmelo Hayes and Ilja Dragunov squared off for the WWE NXT Championship. These two began fighting right away, each having numerous offensive turns. Dragunov performed several german suplexes. Dragunov then struck the champion in the chest with a few chops. Dragunov responded with a major league clothesline for two before Hayes caught him with a superkick after they had swapped blows.

Highlights 

Hayes shocked the crowd with a tilt-a-whirl slam. Hayes launched a barrage of elbows before landing a springboard DDT for two. Hayes attempted to reach the top rope, but Dragunov head-kicked him instead. Dragunov scores two points with a back senton off the top rope. Hayes attempted to dive, but Dragunov stopped him with a vicious powerbomb, causing Hayes to land on his neck. Dragunov hits two with a forearm shot. To get two points, Hayes countered a suplex off the top rope into a cutter. Dragunov struck Trick Williams with a dive that missed Hayes. Hayes secured the victory with a leg drop finisher.

Women’s Title Match

Early on, Stratton had the upper hand, but Hail battled back with a strong suplex. Prior to Hail’s spectacular flying crossbody, the champion dove outside the ring. On her opponent, Stratton performed a powerful moonsault, which was followed by an exploder suplex. Andre Chase made the game’s final announcement while Hail was experiencing problems.
