Seth Rollins entered this week’s “Gold Rush” special episode of NXT television with a world heavyweight title battle against Finn Balor scheduled for Money in the Bank on July 1. That alone appears to be a spoiler for his bout for the same championship versus Bron Breakker in the show’s main event.

Of course, garnering some attention for Breakker was as important as anything else. Rollins did retain his world heavyweight championship, but Breakker had a great bout with him and proved he belongs on the main roster in matches like this. They went on to have a fantastic match, with Rollins hitting a tremendous frog splash into Breakker when he was on the announcer’s table.

Bron had a number of close calls, but in the end, he ate not one, but two Stomps on his route to a pinfall defeat. For what it’s worth, Finn Balor made a surprise return shortly afterward to assault Rollins once more:

Bron Breakker knew what he was getting into

Before his match on WWE NXT, the former two-time NXT Champion in an interview with Sports Illustrated discussed his match with the Visionary. Breakker opened up his discussion by speaking about the June 6th promo in which he challenged Rollins to a battle for the brand-new heavyweight belt. He explained that the promo was shortened at the last minute, leaving him with little time to prepare.

He said, “It was down to the last second. That only added to the excitement. This is my biggest opportunity in sports. Seth Rollins is outstanding. He’s proven that for over 10 years. But I just don’t think he’s ever faced anyone who is as hungry as I am right now.” H/t-WrestlingHeadlines
