The WWE universe was in shock when Big E broke his neck in a match against Ridge Holland. The member of the New Day landed on his head and in the process broke his neck in what looked like a serious injury at the time with severe consequences. But fortunately, within a week, Big E posted a video of himself walking around his neighbourhood, which was viewed as a positive step in his recovery process. In March, he also revealed that he narrowly missed a stroke, paralysis or death.

After a very long time on the update front, Big E took to Twitter to provide an update on his recovery. He said that his recovery may take a little longer than expected and said that his C1 vertebrae did not heal optimally and also that he needs to spend another 4-6 weeks in a neck brace. He tweeted, “For those desirous of an update, my C1 apparently isn’t healing optimally. I’ll spend another 4-6 weeks in a brace in hopes that I can avoid a fusion. But don’t you fret! I’ve got a tremendous support system & what shall be shall be.”

Top doc says Big E’s career may be over

The in-ring career of WWE superstar Big E may come to an abrupt and premature end. That is the opinion of former WWE doctor David Chao. Dr Chao, in his latest column for Outkick, wrote that even though C-1 fractures don’t necessarily require surgery, they don’t always heal completely. “The C1 fracture is most dangerous as the top cervical vertebrae is a ring and is commonly associated with immediate death or complete paralysis. Thankfully the fracture was not displaced and he will not need surgery. However, this type of fracture often heals incompletely and it may mean the end of his wrestling career.”

On the C6 fracture, the doctor anticipates a three-month recovery time at the very least. “The C6 fracture is likely a compression injury to the vertebral body. This likely requires immobilization but not surgery. One would anticipate a minimum of three-month recovery with a return to full function and activities for this lower cervical injury.”

Big E had an exciting run as the WWE champion towards the end of last year. It looked like he was finally starting to fulfil his immense potential and was loved by fans from all across the world. Prayers up for Big E who is one of the most universally-beloved people in the wrestling world and amongst the fans.
