Tsvetan Sokolov is a prominent figure in international volleyball who hails from Bulgaria. Playing as an opposite spiker, he currently represents Dynamo Moscow and is a former national team member of Bulgaria’s volleyball team, announcing his departure from the team in 2023. Sokolov’s journey with the Bulgarian national team commenced in 2006 when he was just 16. He was instrumental in guiding the Bulgarian team to an impressive fourth-place finish at the 2012 London Olympics, the team’s most recent Olympic appearance. Additionally, he played a key role in leading Bulgaria to a bronze medal at the 2009 CEV European Championship. In 2013, he was selected for the Dream Team of the FIVB Volleyball World League and later emerged as the top scorer of the World League in 2016.
In the FIVB World League 2013, Tsvetan Sokolov was honored as the Best Opposite Spiker and again achieved the same award at the FIVB Club World Championship. He clinched the Best Opposite Spiker award once again at the FIVB Club World Championship in 2017. In 2018, he won the Best Opposite Spiker awards in both the CEV Champions League and the FIVB Club World Championship. In club competitions, with Itas Diatec Trentino, he played a key role in winning the CEV Champions League for the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons and later achieved the same feat with Cucine Lube Civitanova in the 2018-19 season. While with Itas Diatec Trentino, he claimed multiple Italian Cup and Italian Championship titles. He then continued his journey with Cucine Lube Civitanova, leading them to victories in the Italian Cup and Championship in 2016-17 and again in the 2018-19 Italian Championship.
Sokolov’s recent years have been with Dynamo Moscow in Russia, a Russian professional men’s volleyball team based in Moscow competing in the Super League. He was instrumental in the team clinching the Russian Cup, Championship, and SuperCup in the 2020-21 season. In the next season, he secured another Russian Championship and SuperCup in 2021-22. At the recently held FIVB Road to Paris Olympics 2024 qualifiers volleyball tournament, he was the fourth-best scorer in Pool C and scored an impressive 27 points in Bulgaria’s 3-2 win over Belgium.
