Mayu Ishikawa is a Japanese professional volleyball player from Okazaki City, Aichi, Prefecture. As one of its outside hitters, she competes for the Japan Women’s National Volleyball Team. She took part in the women’s volleyball competition at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She is presently a member of the team Toray Arrows. She formerly served as the U.S. National Volleyball team’s U-20 captain. She joined the neighborhood club team Anjo Kita Rabbits when she was a third-grader at Okazaki City’s Yahagi Minami Elementary School and began playing volleyball.

In 2016, she entered Shimokitazawa Seitoku High School, which boasts a renowned high school volleyball team, after completing junior high. She had established herself as a regular since her first year and defeated Kinrankai High School with a set count of 3-0 to claim the title of “2016 National High School Comprehensive Athletic Meet Volleyball Tournament” (Inter-high). In 2017, she was named the team’s ace, and in the final round of the “69th All Japan Volleyball High School Championship” (Harutaka), she led the team to a straight-set victory over Shujitsu High School.

The 2017 Asian Girls’ U18 Volleyball Championship was held in China, and Mayu competed as a representative of her country for the first time. Mayu was first registered as a member of the Japan women’s national under-18 volleyball team in March 2017. She led the Japan team to victory while serving as captain. Mayu led the under-20 national team in July 2019 at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s U20 World Championship in Mexico. Mayu earned the “Most Valuable Player” (MVP) and second-place “Best Outside Spiker” awards for leading the team to victory.

Japan won the gold medal at the 2019 Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship in August of the same year, and Mayu was presented with the same prizes after the event. Kumi Nakada, the head coach of Japan’s senior national team, assessed her performance, and as a result, she was added to the Japanese team for the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Cup. She was selected to play in the tournament’s matches against South Korea and the United States as a starting member, and she contributed the most goals for Japan in each contest. The FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League in 2021 saw her participate. The 2020 Summer Olympics roster for Japanese women included Mayu as well.

 Mayu Ishikawa has been named the brand ambassador for Mizuno Corporation, an Osaka-based Japanese sports equipment and sportswear company.
