The top teams will earn a place in the 2024 Summer Olympics volleyball tournament.
Friday will see Poland take on Argentina to book a place for the Paris Olympics. The Polish team is currently at the top of the world rankings. At the same time, Argentina is ranked sixth in the world rankings. Heading into Friday’s match, the Polish side is coming after thrashing the Mexican side (3-0). On the other hand, Argentina is coming after winning a nail-biter against the Belgian side (3-2). As the Olympic qualification is at stake, both sides will continue their impressive run of form. Naturally, it will be a tough match between the two winning sides. However, the Polish challenge is going to be the toughest test for the South Americans.
The 24 teams are placed in three pools of eight, for a round-robin tournament. Subsequently, in each group, every team will face each other once. After this, the top two ranked teams will obtain a quota for Paris 2024. Rio de Janeiro in Brazil will host all games of Pool A. While, while the teams in Pool B will play in Tokyo, Japan. On the other hand, nations in Pool C are going to play in Xi’an, People’s Republic of China.
The Olympic Qualification Tournaments will include the 24 best-placed non-qualified teams except Russia who is ineligible to compete in the OQTs due to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. The National Olympic Committees have the exclusive authority for the representation of their respective countries at the Olympic Games. Therefore, the athletes’ participation at the Paris Games depends on their NOC selecting them to represent their delegation at Paris 2024.
