The 2022 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League is heating up, with action picking up in the middle. The tournament’s fourth edition, which began on May 31st, will run until July 17th. The finals will start on July 13 and will carry on till the 17th. The Nations League comprises some of the biggest names in the sport, with three-time champions the United States, Brazil, and Turkey among others competing for glory. With the tournament currently in the preliminary round, there is still time left for a lot of surprises to happen in the final month.

Italy taking on Brazil on Saturday is one of the most awaited matches of the competition. The 2021 continental champions of Europe and South America will take to the court in their roles among the favourites to progress to the VNL finals in Ankara next month. Both sides have been in pretty good form in the competition. Brazil have won five of their six games so far and sit at the fourth spot with 15 points, while their Saturday’s opponents are two places behind them with 14 points from seven games. It will be the fourth meeting between the two sides in VNL, and Brazil have a better head-to-head record having won three times.
In the preliminary round, 16 women’s teams will compete in pools of 8 teams under the revised format. During the pool stage, each team plays 12 matches. Eight teams will then advance to the competition’s final knockout round. The Finals will include the seven strongest teams, with the finals host – Turkey – entering the knockout round as the top-placed team. It will consist of eight matches in total – four quarterfinals, two semi-finals, and bronze and gold medal matches.

Serbia, Dominican Republic and Bulgaria registered victories on Saturday. Serbia, who are placed fifth in the standings, defeated Turkey 25-19, 15-25, 20-25, 25-22, 15-13. It was a thrilling encounter which went down the wire and Serbia had to dig deep to clinch the victory. Dominican Republic also produced a thrilling five-set encounter against Netherlands. The match ended 25-23, 20-25, 21-25, 25-15, 7-15 in the Caribbean nations favour. Meanwhile Canada registered a comfortable 3-0 win against Canada, the scoreline read 26-24, 25-22, 25-21.
