The highly anticipated FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League 2023 is scheduled to take place from May 30 to July 16, 2023. 16 teams from four different confederations will compete in the tournament, all of whom have their sights set on winning the coveted championship trophy. The main competitors in the tournament are Brazil, China, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey, and the United States. The challenger teams are Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Poland, and the Dominican Republic.
The 2023 Women’s Nations League will consist of four significant phases, the first of which will include three weeks of grueling competition. The top eight teams from these preliminary rounds who placed highest in their respective standings will move on to the final round. These eight teams will compete against one another in a knockout format during the tournament’s crucial stage. Eight total matches will be played at the tournament’s conclusion, including four quarterfinals, two semifinals, and the bronze and gold medal matches. The host nation for the finals and the top seven teams in the competition will compete for the coveted medals.
Last year, the Canadian women’s national indoor volleyball team defeated South Korea in Shreveport, Louisiana’s FIVB Volleyball Nations League preliminary round, 25-21, 25-13, 25-16, to improve to 2-2. Kiera Van Ryk of Surrey led Canada with 14 points. Scarborough’s captain, Jennifer Cross, added 13 additional points, including two service points. Seonwoo Lee and Sohwi Kang, South Korea’s top scorers, were held to just seven points by the Canadian women.
