The fifth iteration of the FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League 2023 kicked off on May 30 and will conclude on July 16, 2023. The tournament’s final phase is slated to be held from July 12th to July 16th, 2023. The United States, which is hosting the final phase, will be playing in the quarterfinals alongside seven other nations – Poland, Turkey, China, Brazil, Italy, Japan, and Germany. The United States, Turkey, and Brazil have advanced to this stage in all four tournaments before. However, this is the first time when Germany will appear in the final stage.

The third quarter-final of the FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League 2023 is set for a showdown between Brazil and China on the 13th of July. These two teams share a rich competitive history which traces back to the first VNL in 2018 when China won against Brazil with an unbroken winning streak in the semifinals. After the preliminary round, both teams held eight wins apiece. Brazil, having reached the finals in all previous iterations, is now striving to end their string of silver finishes over the last three years. Meanwhile, China is determined to get back on the podium after an early exit in the 2021 tournament and a failure to reach the final four in 2022, especially considering their back-to-back bronze medals in the inaugural two tournaments.
