Australia are rooted at the bottom of the table with zero points from five games and Bulgaria are at 13th place, having managed five points from the same number of matches. Hence, the round one clash on Friday will hold huge significance for both sides.
The Australian side have struggled to match the level shown by other teams in the competition till now. They have lost all five games that they have played in the competition. On the other hand, Bulgaria have also endured a poor start to the tournament, losing the opening four matches. They came close on a couple of occasions against Germany and Canada but were not able to cross the finishing line. However, they ended the winless run against Iran in the last game. Hence, Bulgaria will be looking to build on that momentum, while Australia will be keen to register their first victory in this year’s competition.

A fresh new format was enforced for the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Nations League ahead of the 2022 edition. The revised format will feature 16 men’s teams who will compete in pools of 8 teams during the preliminary round. Eight teams will then advance to the competition’s final knockout round. The Finals will include the seven strongest teams, with the finals host — Italy — entering the knockout round as the top-placed team. It will consist of eight matches in total – four quarterfinals, two semi-finals, and bronze and gold medal matches.
