Alexander Volkanovski has consistently excelled to the point that he is being tipped to dethrone Kamaru Usman as the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter. What is undeniable is that he has earned the right to perch alone atop the featherweight mountain.

At UFC 273 this past weekend, “The Great” extended his current winning run to 21 with a fourth-round TKO against “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung. He successfully defended his championship for the third time.

With the exception of Conor McGregor, Volkanovski has defeated every UFC featherweight champion in the promotion’s history. Despite his wins over the likes of former champions Max Holloway — whom he beat twice — and Jose Aldo, the Australian has admitted to needing to put in more work before being considered the division’s all-time best over those two.

Volkanovski has finally done enough to deserve that designation, according to UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.

Adesanya said on his YouTube channel, “Standout fight [of UFC 273], Volkanovski, of course. The G.O.A.T. The featherweight G.O.A.T. Yeah, I’m hyped right now. I haven’t even had breakfast, I couldn’t eat because my adrenaline’s been running. Volkanovski, I said it was going to be bad. It was bad.”

Volkanovski in UFC 273

Over the course of three rounds and a half, Volkanovski mercilessly dismantled his South Korean opponent. It was debatable whether the battle should even continue at the conclusion of the middle round. Well, it did for 45 seconds when referee Herb Dean decided to call a halt to the action.

The featherweight champion is now ranked No. 3 in the official UFC pound-for-pound rankings, one spot below Adesanya. It’s possible that this will change after Tuesday’s update.

Volkanovski is going incredible and strong and it makes sense as he is been training hard and going for opponent after opponent. And after UFC 273 Volkanovski made sure he is good and will continue going strong. Also, in his weight category, he is the best fighter.
