Sergei Pavlovich is a Russian professional mixed martial artist currently signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He was a former Fight Nights Global heavyweight champion and he competes in the heavyweight division and is widely regarded as one of the most talented up-and-coming fighters in the sport boasting a record of 18-1 with 15 knockout wins all in the first round.

Background

Sergei Pavlovich is a Russian mixed martial artist who competes in the heavyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship(UFC). He was born on June 19, 1992, in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, and began his combat sports career in kickboxing at the age of 18. Pavlovich later transitioned to MMA and made his professional debut in 2011, fighting for regional promotions in Russia and Europe.

Pavlovich quickly established himself as a top contender in the heavyweight division, earning a name for his ruinous knockout power and well-rounded fighting style. He won his first eight professional fights, finishing all of his opponents by KO/ TKO, and captured titles in several regional promotions. In 2017, Pavlovich got signed into the M- 1 Global promotion, one of the premier MMA associations in Russia, and continued his winning ways with impressive performances against numerous tough opponents.

Early Career

Sergei Pavlovich was born in 1992 in Orlovsky, Rostov Oblast, and began training in Greco- Roman wrestling at the tender age of five under his trainer Alexander Fedorovich Aloyan. Pavlovich continued his training in wrestling till the 11th grade and later transitioned into Combat Sambo after serving in the army.

Pavlovich made his professional MMA debut in 2014 under Fight Nights Global, a Russian fighting promotion. Sergei would then create a 12-0 record under this promotion and then win the heavyweight title by defeating Mikhail Mokhnatkin. Pavlovich would later make his UFC debut on 24 November 2018. Pavlovich’s background along with his history of knockout finishes has made him an underrated yet beloved star in the UFC.

UFC Career

Sergei Pavlovich made his UFC debut on November 24, 2018, against Alistair Overeem during UFC Fight Night 141. Pavlovich would go on to lose that fight via TKO in the first round. Sergei would then face Marcelo Golm during UFC Fight Night: Overeem Vs. Oleinik, and win via knockout while also earning the Performance of the Night award.

Pavlovich would later clash with Maurice Greene in 2019 during UFC Fight Night 162, whom he would defeat in the first round with yet first round knockout. A fight between Ciryl Gane and Pavlovich was scheduled on UFC Fight Night 174 but Pavlovich had to pull out allegedly because of an injury.

In UFC Fight Night 191, Pavlovich was set to face Tom Aspinall but Pavlovich had to pull out once again, this time due to visa issues. Sergei Pavlovich was replaced by Sergey Spivak that night. A similar situation unfolded where Pavlovich had to pull out from yet another fight against Tanner Boser at UFC on ESPN 31.

Pavlovich would then go on to appear in his first fight in two years during UFC Fight Night 204 against Shamil Abdurakhimov. Pavlovich would win this match in round one via technical knockout winning another Performance of the Night award.

In UFC 277 Pavlovich would face Derrick Lewis, a match that he’ll wrap up in under a minute via a TKO. This match would spark some controversy and many fans and fighters still believe that the match stoppage by the referee was premature indeed.

At UFC on ESPN 42, Pavlovich would face Tai Tuivasa and once again win via a knockout in under a minute into the first round. This performance would once again earn him a Performance of the Night award.

Sergei Pavlovich’s most prominent performance would be against Curtis Blaydes on UFC Fight Night 222, a fight that he would finish via a TKO in the first round while also earning yet another Performance Of the Night award.
