McGregor is a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion. He made a public appearance at The O2 Arena in London, England, over the weekend. He was present to sponsor the heavyweight headliner between former world champion Anthony Joshua and Finnish contender Robert Helenius. During this event, McGregor unveiled his plans for a three-fight series in the near future.
The Dublin striker revealed his intention to return to the Octagon in December with Michael Chandler as his opponent. This revelation has left MMA fans eagerly anticipating an official announcement. McGregor’s proposed plan also includes chasing the BMF title against Justin Gaethje and completing a trilogy with Nate Diaz.
McGregor’s absence from the Octagon has been due to a fractured left tibia and fibula sustained during his rubber match against Dustin Poirier in July 2021. While he has been sidelined, McGregor has been featured as an opposing coach on The Ultimate Fighter 31. There he faced off against none other than Michael Chandler.
According to UFC president Dana White, the anticipated fight between McGregor and Chandler is expected to take place at the welterweight limit. Chandler’s recent statements on his official social media platform, X, have only fueled speculation further.
“Headed to Bristol, CT (Connecticut) now,” Chandler posted. “Big day at @espn HQ tomorrow – a few shows to talk about #tuf31 and the fight between Conor (McGregor) and I.“
In response to a user’s question about the possibility of an announcement regarding their bout. Chandler replied, “Possibly.” This hint has sent fans into a frenzy, eagerly awaiting official confirmation of the clash between the two fighters.
Chandler himself has been out of action since November of the previous year. When he faced Dustin Poirier at Madison Square Garden. Despite displaying incredible determination and heart, Chandler suffered a third-round rear-naked choke loss to Poirier on the main card of UFC 281. Now, he is eyeing a high-stakes battle with McGregor to mark his return to the Octagon.
