Jon Jones is injured. Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic will no longer happen at UFC 295. Late Tuesday night, UFC CEO Dana White announced that Jones suffered an injury in training that will prevent him from competing on Nov. 11.

“Jon Jones was training last night, got injured, he was wrestling and he tore the tendon that connects your pec to to the bone, off the bone,” White said on Twitter. “[Out] eight months, going to need surgery. He’s out.”

With Jones out, Sergei Pavlovich, who was initially scheduled as the backup combatant for UFC 295’s main event, will now face Tom Aspinall for the title of interim heavyweight champion. The interim championship fight will be the co-main event. With Jiri Prochazka vs. Alex Pereira for the vacant light heavyweight title bumped up to the new main event.

White made no mention of Miocic or why he wasn’t chosen as one-half of the upcoming interim championship battle. Despite the fact that the Ohio native frequently expressed his desire to return to compete against Jones in what may be his final fight. It’s unclear whether Miocic was offered the option or just chose to wait until Jones returned.

What will be the main event in UFC 295?

Pavlovich will attempt to capture UFC gold for the first time after racking up six straight victories, all of which ended in first-round knockouts. Pavlovich has recently eliminated Curtis Blaydes and Tai Tuivasa in stunning fashion, propelling himself into title contention.

As for Aspinall, he’s back after a July win over Marcin Tybura, which acted as his comeback fight after suffering a ruptured ACL in his knee early in his own battle against Blaydes in 2022. Aside from the injury loss, Aspinall has six wins in the UFC, including victories over Alexander Volkov and Sergey Spivak.

Pavlovich vs. Aspinall will compete alongside Prochazka vs. Pereira at UFC 295, which will take place on November 11 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
