Conor McGregor is the former two-division UFC champion and striking sensation. He has showcased his evolution as a mixed martial artist by achieving a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt. McGregor’s journey to this accomplishment was not only marked by his striking prowess but also by his dedication to mastering the ground game.

McGregor took to social media to share his proud moment revealing that he had been awarded a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu by his longtime coach John Kavanagh of SBG Ireland. This milestone comes after “20 years of hard work” in the realm of Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

In his social media post, McGregor expressed his gratitude to Coach Kavanagh and all his teammates who contributed to his remarkable jiu-jitsu journey. He conveyed heartfelt thanks to them from the bottom of his heart, emphasizing the significance of this achievement.

Conor McGregor is renowned for his striking skills and knockout ability. He has ventured into the world of submissions on rare occasions throughout his UFC career. In 14 UFC appearances since his debut in April 2013, McGregor attempted just one submission which occurred in his last fight a July 2021 trilogy clash against Dustin Poirier.

During the final moments of the first round of that fight, McGregor suffered a gruesome broken leg which required surgery and an extensive rehabilitation process. However, McGregor has been in good health for some time now. Earlier this year, he took on the role of a coach opposite Michael Chandler on “The Ultimate Fighter 31.”

The customary practice for coaches on “TUF” is to face each other in a fight. Therefore, it is anticipated that McGregor and Chandler will eventually square off in the Octagon. However, nothing concrete has materialized on this front, primarily because McGregor has been absent from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) drug-testing pool.

According to USADA’s policy, McGregor must be actively in the pool for a minimum of six months before he is eligible to compete. This requirement has contributed to his extended hiatus from the Octagon.

McGregor’s fighting activity has noticeably decreased since his pursuit of UFC titles. Over the past three years, he has participated in just four fights, during which he achieved a 1-3 record. His losses came against Khabib Nurmagomedov in a lightweight title bout and twice to Dustin Poirier. McGregor’s lone victory during this period occurred in January 2020 when he secured a first-round TKO of Donald Cerrone in just 40 seconds in a welterweight contest.
