Du Plessis simply wanted the match and didn’t anticipate the race narrative that people were trying to impose on him. It’s essential to recognize the truth and avoid unfair misinterpretations.

How did things all get to this point? Du Plessis had made some comments about Adesanya’s African heritage. He stated his desire to be recognized as the “real” African champion. Unfortunately, fans and the media twisted his words, turning this highly-anticipated fight into an unnecessary battle over race. Instead of focusing on determining the best middleweight fighter in the world.

During the face-off after Du Plessis’s fight against Robert Whittaker. Adesanya took the racial narrative and ran with it, believing that Du Plessis intentionally made it about race.
