Bassil Hafez voices displeasure over his split decision loss

Hafez is a relative unknown in UFC. He stepped up to the challenge on just five days’ notice to face the highly touted welterweight prospect Della Maddalena at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Hafez came close to pulling off a major upset but ultimately fell short losing via a split decision.

Following the decision numerous fighters took to social media expressing their belief that Hafez was on the wrong end of the judges’ scorecards. Many felt that his dominant performance in the first and second rounds. Followed by Della Maddalena’s resurgence in the third. It should have secured him the victory. However, two of the three judges disagreed leaving Hafez disappointed but gracious in defeat.

Taking to his Instagram stories Hafez thanked everyone who reached out to congratulate him and expressed his belief that he deserved the win. Despite enduring one of the toughest weight cuts of his career. He showed up made his weight and fought with all his heart. Hafez expressed his love and gratitude to his fans and supporters.

Bassil emphasizes that this is just the beginning of his journey. He eagerly awaits the opportunity to have a full training camp and a proper weight cut for his next fight. He also congratulated Della Maddalena on his victory. Acknowledging his opponent’s striking skills and leaving the door open for a potential rematch in the future.

At 31 years old, Hafez trains at Elevation Fight Team in Denver. He is surrounded by elite fighters such as Justin Gaethje and Anthony Smith. His training partners have praised his work ethic and toughness with many expressing their unwavering belief in his potential.

Although the outcome was not in his favor. Hafez’s performance showcased his determination and resilience. His willingness to step up on short notice and face a formidable opponent highlights his commitment to his craft.
