Alex Caceres prepares to face Giga Chikadze in the featured bout of UFC Fight Night 225. His approach remains refreshingly nonchalant. For Caceres, each fight is simply another opportunity to showcase his skills and measure his progress. Rather than a monumental milestone.

Caceres’ laid-back attitude was evident as he addressed reporters during UFC Fight Night 225 media day. He emphasized that to him no fight is greater or lesser than another. Instead, each fight is a chance to gauge where he stands at that moment in time without being concerned about the implications for his future or dwelling on his past performances.

Every fight is always the biggest test of my life,” Caceres said. “There is no fight that is less or more than another. I don’t look at it as a progression. I look at it as a doing or just an action that I’m performing in order to see where I’m at in the standings at the moment of time, not anything to do with the future or past.”

Caceres is set to face Chikadze and a win could potentially catapult him into the top 10 featherweight rankings. However, Caceres isn’t overly fixated on the idea of rankings which he views as volatile and occasionally deceptive. He’s more focused on the opportunity to prove himself against a formidable opponent.

“I feel like rankings are kind of fickle,” Caceres stated. “Some people are ranked above their actual station, and I’m here to prove it.

Caceres’ easygoing mindset has played a significant role in his recent success. After enduring a period of struggle where he lost five of seven fights, he has experienced a resurgence, winning seven out of his last eight bouts. This resurgence is a testament to his adaptability and determination to continue evolving as a fighter.

His willingness to embrace challenges and take fights on short notice demonstrates his genuine passion for the sport. Caceres is motivated by the opportunity to do what he loves most and isn’t bogged down by the potential accolades or rankings that may come his way.

“I took the fight on shorter notice than I would usually take the fight. It’s just I don’t care,” Caceres expressed. “Let me fight. Let me do the thing that I love to do the most in life. So, I do understand that winning this fight and beating people at higher rankings does push me further and closer to a title shot, but once again, I’m here to prove how good I am to myself and has nothing to do with the accolades and treasures that I can possess in achieving such rankings.”

Caceres’ mindset serves as a reminder of the essence of fighting the love for the sport itself. As he heads into the bout against Chikadze, his nonchalant approach is a refreshing departure from the intensity often associated with high-stakes matchups. Instead of fixating on titles and rankings, Caceres focuses on the present moment ready to showcase his abilities and enjoy the thrill of competition.
