Tennis professional Veronika Eduardovna Kudermetova was born in Russia on April 24, 1997. She has a top WTA doubles ranking of No. 2, attained on June 6, 2022, and a career-high singles rating of world No. 22, attained on April 4, 2022. In women's doubles at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, she and Elena Vesnina also advanced to the Grand Slam final. At the 2021 Charleston Open, Kudermetova won her first WTA Tour singles championship. She also teamed up with Duan Yingying to win her first WTA doubles championship at the 2019 Wuhan Open. She debuted on the WTA Tour's main draw in singles at the 2018 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix and in doubles with Evgeniya Rodina at the 2014 Kremlin Cup. At the Kazan Summer Cup, Kudermetova and Evgeniya Rodina defeated Martina Borecká and Alexandra Artamonova to claim their first $50k tournament victory. As a wildcard, she also advanced to the singles semifinals there.

Junior Career

Kudermetova was conceived by national ice hockey champion Eduard Kudermetov.  When she was eight years old, she began playing tennis. Polina, her 2003-born younger sister, is a tennis player as well. At the Kazan Summer Cup, Kudermetova and Evgeniya Rodina defeated Martina Borecká and Alexandra Artamonova to claim their first $50k tournament victory. As a wildcard, she also advanced to the singles semifinals there. 2011 saw Kudermotova achieve her first success on the ITF circuit. She competed in her first WTA qualification match in Moscow in 2014 and won two ITF doubles titles in addition to an ITF singles title.

Senior Career

At the beginning of the year 2014, Kudermetova made it to back-to-back $10k finals in Antalya, and after a string of impressive showings, she made her first-ever top 500 appearance. At the President’s Cup, she participated in her first $100k competition and advanced to the quarterfinals before losing to the eventual winner, Vitalia Diatchenko. Kudermotova has a lifetime record of 168 wins and 115 losses since being pro. She also won four singles ITF career titles and one WTA 125K title. She has a career record of 168 wins and 79 loses in doubles. Kudermotova now holds a ranking of No. 18 as of August 24, 2022, and although she has already competed in four Grand Slam tournaments, she has yet to win one.

WTA challenger debut

Kudermetova made her first final of the year 2016 at Andijan in May after a mediocre start. She then won back-to-back $25k races in Imola and Astana, ensuring her first-ever entry into the top 300 in the world. She continued to ascend after winning the fourth final of the season in Telavi. Her rating soon enabled her to enter the Taipei Challenger directly into the main draw, marking her first appearance at a WTA 125 competition. Prior to falling in the second round, she defeated Varatchaya Wongteanchai in her opening encounter. She finished 2016 with a 34-18 win-loss record overall and two ITF Circuit victories. Her final-quarter standing increased by a total of 190 spots, coming in at position 210.

Grand Slams

At the Australian Open 2017, where she made her Grand Slam debut, she was defeated in the first round of qualifying. At the French Open, Kudermetova prevailed in her first qualifying round before losing her subsequent match. She returned to the main draws of the Grand Slam competitions in 2020. Her doubles semifinal appearance at the US Open and her third-round doubles finish at the French Open are two of her most remarkable results from that year. She also reached the first round of the women’s singles competition at the US Open. She advanced to the third round of both the Australian Open singles and the US Open singles in 2021. She also had her finest result in that year, winning the Wimbledon women’s doubles finals. She reached quartefinal round in the French open in 2022.

Kudermetova was conceived by national ice hockey champion Eduard Kudermetov. When she was eight years old, she began playing tennis. Polina, her 2003-born younger sister, is a tennis player as well.
