Daniel advanced to the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career after defeating Andy Murray and Tomás Barrios in the 2022 Australian Open qualifying round. In the third round, he was defeated by the 10th seed Jannik Sinner. After defeating him in Melbourne, Daniel fell to Andy Murray at the 2022 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells in March, giving the Scotsman his 700th career victory on the ATP Tour. Daniel defeated Duan Lajovi and Holger Rune to advance to the quarterfinals of the Serbia Open in Belgrade in 2022. Andrey Rublev, the second seed, defeated him in straight sets.
