Spanish tennis player Roberto Carballés Baena was born on March 23, 1993, and his name is pronounced [roeto kaaez aena]. On November 15, 2021, he reached his highest ATP singles position of world No. 71. His favoured surface is clay, where he has won 19 ITF singles titles and one ATP title. At the 2014 Casablanca Open, Carballés Baena defeated Belgian David Goffin in straight sets in a match between two qualifiers to earn his first ATP World Tour victory. Following this, he defeated Joo Sousa in the second round after a hard-fought victory. In the quarterfinals, he played lucky loser Andrey Kuznetsov and won in straight sets. In another tough three-set battle, Guillermo Garca-López ended his run in the semifinals. He defeated Albert Ramos Vinolas in the championship match of the 2018 Ecuador Open Quito in February 2018 to claim his first ATP title. At age 24, he became the youngest Spanish champion since Nadal (age 24) at the 2011 Barcelona Open and the first Spanish qualifier to win a championship since Almagro at the 2006 Valencia Open.

With fellow Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Carballés Baena won his first ATP doubles championship at the 2020 Chile Open in Santiago in February 2020. They defeated the second-seeded team of Arévalo/O’Mara in the final. By defeating the ninth seed Denis Shapovalov in the second round of the 2020 French Open, his first top-10 win and first victory in five sets[6], he advanced to the third round, his best finish at a Grand Slam in his career. However, he retired against the 18th seed Grigor Dimitrov in the following round. He lost to the second seed Tallon Griekspoor in the 2021 Murcia Open final in September 2021, his third Challenger final of the year, following his performance in the 2021 US Open second round. At the 2022 Firenze Open, Carballes Baena defeated second seed Matteo Berrettini to advance to his 15th ATP Tour quarterfinal, becoming the first player to do so on a surface other than clay.
